ABOUT

Originally from Stuttgart, Germany, Philip has been passionate about music from an early age. He was exposed to various genres through concerts and his parents' record collection. He started his musical journey with classical piano lessons at the age of six, later transitioning to the guitar. Intrigued by the bass and it's role in jazz bands, he switched to the electric bass and then to the double bass. Philip pursued his music education at the Hochschule für Musik Nuremberg and later at CODARTS in Rotterdam and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he obtained his master's degree.

To further his skills, Philip sought private lessons from acclaimed bassists Joe Martin, Orlando LeFleming and Or Bareket during his stay in New York in 2018. He also had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program at Temple University in Philadelphia in 2022, where he studied with the great bassist David Wong as well as Dick Oatts, Joe Magnarelli and Tim Warfield. Currently based in Amsterdam, Philip actively performs at notable festivals like North Sea Jazz and Grachtenfestival Amsterdam and renowned venues such as the Bimhuis. A recent milestone in his career was the release of the debut album with the band "The Dam Jawn," featuring legendary alto saxophonist Dick Oatts, released in May 2023, followed by a tour in the Netherlands and Spain.

With his genuine love for music and a unique bass sound, Philip continues to make a mark in the jazz scene, captivating audiences with his performances and sharing his passion for music.
