Ben Fitzpatrick Quintet

Saxophonist Ben Fitzpatrick invites a new world class guest each month at Salon de Jazz. Compositions from the guests and Fitzpatrick will be presented backed by an excellent rhythm section. Ben Fitzpatrick (May 9, 1998) is asaxophonist, composer, and educator who has already created a name for himself in the international Jazz scene. Ben was born in Dublin and moved to the United States at the age of 9. At age 15, Ben had the opportunity to play baritone saxophone in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra. Mentored by the great saxophonists Joe Temperley (Duke Ellington Orchestra) and Ted Nash (Thad Jones/ Mel Lewis), Ben was a great success, being a featured soloist on two occasions at Carnegie Hall. The New York Times referred to Ben by name, praising his performance. Ben went on to play at the 2016 Grammy’s with the Grammy Awards Big Band and occasionally subbed for Ted Nash in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Ben was performing professionally in the USA before hedecided to move to Amsterdam to pursue a BA in Jazz Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, which he completed in 2020. He believes that he learned the most on the stage with some of the greatest musicians in the world. He is proud to have worked with and learned from such artists as Jimmy Heath, Jimmy Greene, Bob Mintzer, Dick Oatts andWynton Marsalis, who inspired him to be the best musician he could be. Ben at age 25 is now the first chair tenor saxophonist, and the youngest musician to hold a permanent position in the WDR Big Band. He is an innovative musician as he is deeply rooted in the Jazz tradition but still looking for new sounds and textures. He has performed with musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Jimmy Heath, Lalah Hathaway, Sean Jones, and Seamus Blake. He strives to give the audience a good time whilst never sacrificing the quality of the music. Nitin Parree (1996) is a Netherlands-based drummer. Nitin has had lessons from Eric Ineke for over six years now and also studies with Stefan Kruger and Felix Schlarmann at the Royal Conservatory. When he was 14 he participated in a masterclass of Peter Guidi where he played swing for the first time. He got so engaged by the music that he wanted to keep playing jazz and his drum teacher at that time, Paul van Vossen, recommended Eric Ineke as the best jazz teacher around. People like Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Dexter Gordon, and John Coltrane had a big influence on his playing at the time and still to this day. Born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1995, Philip's interest in music was sparked at an early age from being exposed to many different genres of music, both in concerts and at home. Like many other Bassists, it was not only the curiosity for the low frequencies but also out of necessity for a bass player in the local jazz band that made him switch to first the Bass Guitar and then soon after to the Double Bass. During two years of studying at the Hochschule fur Musik Nuremberg, Philip became an active performer in the young Jazz-Scene in southern Germany. To further broaden his horizons, he decided to move to Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 2017, to study at CODARTS, with dutch bass legends Marius Beets, Stefan Lievestro, and Frans van Geest. In 2018 he took private lessons from internationally renowned bassists Joe Martin, Orlando LeFleming, and Or Bareket during a stay in New York. He finished his Bachelor's Degree in 2020 and is now an active performer in the dutch Jazz Scene and an educator based in Rotterdam.
